Spring is well under way, and even if the Easter Bank Holiday weekend has been rather wet we have already managed several walks this year with excellent weather and in beautiful surroundings; indeed only one walk has needed to be cancelled due to inclement weather. Numbers attending walks is on the up with a very healthy (and almost record number) of 13 members attending the recent Red walk to Llyn Geirionydd and Llyn Crafnant from Trefriew.
We held our AGM & Social in February and the new committee have just held their first meeting.
The committee now comprises
Chairperson: Ed Smyth
Treasurer: Ken Pratt
Social / Membership Secretary: Paula Ford
Holiday Secretary: Sarah Andrew
Walk leader Coordinator: Pauline Ziman
Walk Leader Training
We are always keen to add new walk leaders to the group. Training is provided and organised by the club so if anyone is interested please contact Pauline.
A reminder: Please let the walk leader know in advance (ideally by the Friday evening) if you are planning to join a Sunday walk. The walk may be cancelled if only one or two people have booked so it is really helpful to know if you intend to walk even if you want to confirm nearer the time. It also helps the walk leader anticipate car shares etc.
ICE (In Case of Emergency)
The club asks that all walkers carry an ICE card in an accessible pocket of their rucksack. There is a link to the template or ICE form on the Safety page of the website – https://ohwc.org.uk/safety/.
We have laminates available to make up the card – if you would like one, please ask a member of the committee and they will arrange to get one to you.
Using 112 on a mobile phone in an Accident/Emergency
The video clip (details below) is lifted from the June 2013 newsletter as we feel it is important enough to be published again. It shows how to register your phone to be able to contact the emergency services by text in the event of an incident. A text will often succeed when there is insufficient signal for a phone call.

We will be returning to Glaramara hotel where the food is fabulous and the walking spectacular. We have limited number of single rooms on offer so please think of doubling up with a friend if you are willing. Save the dates for now, we do not need expressions of interest yet.
- Charity Walk 9th July & BBQ
Building on last year’s BBQ & Charity Walk which was attended by 37 members we have decided to make it bigger and better this year. We will be offering a choice of two walks, Green and Blue and our hosts for the BBQ will be Jan and Steve in Huxley.
- Christmas Party: at Willington Hall in December.
The feedback following our Christmas party in the Orangery (a new room which overlooks the gardens and surrounding countryside) was very positive and so we intend returning there again this year. More details will be circulated shortly.
You should by now have all received a 2017 diary (similar in format to last year). If you have not received one then please contact me and I will post one out to you.
Our database is now being up-dated as some of the details held (addresses/dietary requirement/phone numbers etc.) would appear to be out of date. We would also like to ascertain whether everyone on the database wishes to remain on our contact list.
Please look out for an email from me asking you to amend any incorrect information.
Regards to you all
& Happy Walking
