Committee Vacancies

As many of you will know I will be retiring from the Committee at the next AGM in February 2015. As part of our succession planning I am delighted to let you know that Sarah Andrew and Paula Ford have been co-opted to the Committee with a view to considering going forward as nominations next year. If you are interested too please let me know.

AGM/Supper/Social Evening 2016 – 12 February – Eaton Golf Club – a date for your diary

Just to let you know next year’s AGM will be held at Eaton using the opportunity to discuss business for the club as well as a supper and social evening and Sarah (see above) is planning a short quiz.

Charity Walk

Many thanks to you all who took part in Our Charity Walk and donated some overpayments this year to raise £118.07 with £59.03 going to Cancer Research and £59.04 going to the Stroke Association.

Safety Guidance for Leaders and Safety Guidance for Walkers

We have developed further guidance for both you and our Walk Leaders following our experience of walking in poor weather conditions. We are going to distil this into an easy to read/reminder laminated card (similar to our ICE Cards) so that we can take them with us on walks. Early distribution will start at Dolgellau (at least with a non-laminated version) and follow up on walks or at the AGM. Further work is in hand to review our Risk Assessment and our best practice and training.

New Walk Leaders

Congratulations to Jan Gidman who has now become our latest Walk Leader. Stephen Doubt is now going forward for assessment and Wendy Scott will undertake her training early next year. If anyone else is interested please contact Steve Andrews

A fantastic response thanks with 38 bookings! So there a few double/twin and some singles left – some of these may be the discounted budget options – email me if you wish to check what accommodation is available. Don’t forget though it’s the payment of the deposit (£75.00) that secures the booking.

Summer Holiday – Les Contamines, French Alps 4 July 2015 – STILL BOOKING

22 of us are booked and another expected – the airfare payment likely to be needed soon. There are a few rooms left (twin and single) and the maximum is 28. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested – deposit of £100 needed and a copy of your passport photograph page.

Spring and Autumn Walking Weekends 2016 – yes really

Because we have a pretty large number interested in weekends away (around 40+ now) we need to book early to secure the accommodation so our proposals for 2016 are:

Dovedale – Spring 2016

Taking account of your feedback from the recent survey for closer locations we will seek an early bird booking of the HF House in Dovedale, Derbyshire.

Glaramara – 23-25 September 2016

This is a non HF location and set in the most beautiful location with lovely walks at both low and high levels and can also provide a base for the Wainwrights. Details to follow as soon as possible.

Social Events 2014

Summer Supper

Many thanks for all the feedback after our Summer Supper at the Bluebell Café where 43 of us squished in and it seems really enjoyed the evening! Leonie was delighted and said that her team also reported that they enjoyed the evening too.

Christmas Party and Disco – Eaton Golf Club – Friday 5 December – 7:00 for 7:30 – carriages at 12 midnight

Don’t forget to put this event in your diary! A fantastic menu has been provided from Carol the Chef at Eaton and thanks to Mick Green we will have music for the dancing. Booking details out shortly.

Affiliate membership with cotsWold outdoor – discount

Unfortunately due to small numbers the evenings at Cotswolds are no longer sustainable. However with the affiliate membership and an Explore Card we can receive 15% discount on full price goods all the time. You must have the Explore Card at each transaction – if anyone does not have one please do ask them. If you are an investment member of HF Holidays you should receive 20% discount (you will need your HF membership card). You may also want to have a look at
