Dear members what a lovely summer we’ve had with such a great variety of walks, weekends away and two holidays abroad. Although we might be approaching shorter days and colder weather we still as a club have lots to look forward to and hopefully some good walks ahead of us.
Below is a brief summary of events that have taken place, up-coming events and holidays for 2024.
Sending best wishes to you all, Paula and the Committee.
Social Events – Paula
Summer Charity Walk & Social July 2nd.
A big thank you goes to Di & Neville who kindly hosted this year. Over 30 members joined in the two walks on offer. As promised, we all enjoyed a fabulous lunch in their beautiful gardens and the hot sausages and Pimm’s were much appreciated. Thank you to all those who attended, arriving with such an array of food and for generally assisting with the day’s event. I’m pleased to say that both our charities benefitted from the generosity of our members, each receiving a donation of £200.
Looking forward to the Charity walk in 2024, the date has been provisionally set for June 30th. If you would be interested in hosting, please do get in touch. The committee can provide all crockery glasses etc that are required and will help set up and clear the space.
Christmas Party Friday 1st December 2023 7pm for 8pm dinner.
Yes, Christmas is fast approaching and this year we are heading off to Pryors Hayes Golf Club for our festive fun. Here are the full menu details, which looks delicious.
We will have a room to ourselves although there may be other dinners/parties going on in other rooms. We will most importantly of course have access to the bar. No deposit is required. However, I will require final numbers, our menu selections (per person) and full payment 14 days in advance. If you would like to come, please let me know as soon as you can. The cost for the 3-course meal (plus coffee / tea and mince pies) is £35 per person.

Please take a few minutes to look at the club website, with all its information on future walks, past walks, photos taken. It is such a great resource!
Walk Leader information – Jan
The Sunday walks have been really well attended this year. The midweek social walks followed by lunch or coffee have proved very popular, and so next year we intend to fit four into our walk calendar.
I am pleased to say that John has recently passed his silver NNAS award with flying colours, so we have gained another walk leader. Next year we have three members who wish to attend courses.
The walk leaders will be attending their annual First Aid Training Day at the end of October.
Holidays and Weekends Report – Caroline
Recent Holidays 18 members enjoyed a new type of group holiday in July with Inghams as a self-booked trip. Staying in 2 adjacent 4* hotels we took full advantage of the huge variety of walks and activities in the Stubai valley, where the excellent bus and lift system provided easy access to the beautiful Austrian Alps, in addition to cultural visits to Innsbruck.
In September a group of 6 members returned to the mountains with Hike Pyrenees to enjoy the beautiful Catalan Pyrenees on a hutting and hotel visit. This was an area of the mountain range not previously visited by the club which offered breathtaking scenery with excellent guides.
This month saw a group of 27 spend a sociable walking weekend at HF Monk Coniston Hall in the Southern Lake District. As the weather improved, we revisited favourite haunts such as Wetherlam, Coniston Old Man, Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest.
Holidays 2024 We have another sociable HF stay planned for next year, with 17 guests currently signed up. Our booking is at Peveril of the Peak Hotel in Dovedale, for a 3-night weekend 26-29 April. This is a hotel we have used before, offering walks in the lovely southern Peak District National Park. Please contact Caroline if you wish to be added to the guest list.
For summer 2024 we had planned a return visit to the Picos de Europa area of Northern Spain with Hike Pyrenees. Sadly, there was not enough take up from members to proceed with a club booking.
Next autumn we have a booking at Glaramara Hotel, Seatoller, near Borrowdale. With arrival on Monday 23 September for 3 nights, the trip will offer walks at Blue and Red levels only. Members have enjoyed this well-run hotel on many occasions before. We currently have 23 guests booked and there are potentially double or twin rooms left.
Welsh Marilyns
We have made a very good start on the Welsh Marilyns and have recently had our first weekend away in Aberystwyth. Next year there are two weekends organised the first on the Llyn Peninsular in May. The second keep your eyes on the website. If you are interested in going please contact John.
