Tal y Fan and Moelfre from the Sychnant Pass

Starting from the old inland road between Conwy and Penmaenmawr this walk takes us to the most northerly of the Carneddau mountains, Tal y Fan (a Welsh Marilyn), and then to some excellent viewing spots for the North Wales coast. Several stone circles are visible along the route.

From the car park near the top of the Sychnant Pass we head SE and then SW along the route of the Cambrian Way. The going is easy along the grassy path below the Tal y Fan ridge but after about 4k
we start to ascend the ridge towards a disused quarry and then finally, without the benefit of a path, up to the main ridge. We follow a wall side path to the top of Tal y Fan.

From Tal y Fan we head N and then NW to the fine view point of Moelfre. We descend ENE along a slight ridge, passing a stone circle (the Druid’s Circle) and then join the North Wales footpath for a short distance. A path to the N leads to the promenade around Foel Lus, another good viewpoint.

We return to the North Wales path which keeps to the higher ground above the hamlet of Capelulo and then joins the Sychnant Pass road a short distance from the car park.

Mostly grassy and rocky paths but also some trackless places.
