Frodsham and Helsby Hills

A favourite local area for us to return to. A different route with lovely views; on a clear day all the way to the Shropshire Hills to the south

21 January 2024

No dogs allowed

We start at Helsby quarry nature reserve car park and ascend Hill Road (a steep but short hill) and into Snidley Moor Wood and along the side of the golf course eventually leading to the viewpoint at the war memorial on Overton Hill, Frodsham.

We continue along the sandstone escarpment with views over the Mersey Estuary to Liverpool. We drop down the escarpment to Woodhouses and then climb up to the top of Helsby Hill with more views over Frodsham Marshes, M56, Manchester Ship Canal, Mersey Estuary, North Wales and on a clear day all the way to the Shropshire Hills to the south.

The walk finishes by rejoining the path below Snidley Moor and returning to Helsby Hill carpark.

Some narrow and rocky sections but mainly woodland paths, quiet lanes and fields.
